At The Helm.

‘At the Helm’, the memoirs of V Krishnamurthy, should be made compulsory reading for all public sector managers and beurocrats.
He is the foremost technocrat, the country has produced.
Krishnamoorthy turned around three ailing public sector giants BHEL, Maruthi and SAIL, though he knew nothing about automobiles or steel. No one has been able to replicate the feat even after 30 years.
V Krishnamurthy, apart from being CMD of BHEL, Maruthi, and SAIL, has been Chairman of IIM Ahmedbad and IIM Bangalore , IIT Delhi, XIM Bhubaneswar, and Member Planning Commission etc.

The last chapter of his memoirs contains his prescriptions for public sector reforms:
“Every company must ensure that it is technologically strong and sound, self reliant and quality conscious.
No company can acheive success if it ignores the people that make the organisation. It is important to ensure that qualified and unqualified persons as well as bright performers and laggards are not treated at par.
Every company should have a vision about what it stands for. Strategic thinking and long -term planning are crucial for every organisation”……….
