Dashrath Manjhi.
“Manjhi: The Mountain Man” is a 2015 Indian biographical film directed by Ketan Mehta, based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a poor labourer from Gehlaur village near Gaya in Bihar.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui stars in the titular role, depicting Manjhi’s extraordinary feat of carving a path through a mountain using only a hammer and chisel over 22 years.
This remarkable endeavor was driven by his desire to provide easier access to medical care and other facilities for his village after his wife, Phaguniya (played by Radhika Apte), died due to the lack of timely medical help.
The 30 feet wide, 360 feet long was cut through a 25 feet hill. The road reduced the distance between the two blocks from 55 km to 15 km.
The film showcases Manjhi’s unwavering determination, love, and perseverance, making it a powerful tale of human spirit and resilience.
An episode of Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate featured Majhi. A stamp was also brought out in honour of the Mountain Man.
