Ingmar Bergman.

14 July is the birth anniversary of the renowned Swedish writer, film director, and producer, Ingmar Bergman( 1918 – 2007).

Bergman made films that are celebrated as world classics ; The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, Cries and Whispers, Fanny and Alexander etc.
His films reflect a bleak depiction of human conditions, vulnerability and torment. They are always mystically engaged in a search for moral standards of judgement, a rigorous examination of action and motive in terms of good and bad, right and wrong.
His notable books include, The Magic Lantern, My Life in Film, and Bergman on Bergman.

Many critics rate ‘Wild Strawberries’ as his magnum opus, but my own favorite is , ‘The Seventh Seal’. The film, with Biblical connotations, is a visual representation of the idea of evil, as embodied in the Devil.
Who can ever forget the protagonist Block challenging Death for a game of Chess?.
The films of Bergman are not simple or easy to watch , but you are sure to be transformed, once you leave the theater.
