Amar Gopal Bose.
2 November is the birth anniversary of the American genius of Indian origin, Amar Gopal Bose ( 1929-2013).
Prof Bose was the founder of the BOSE Corporation which was 271 in the list of the 300 richest corporations in the USA in 2011. He was the inventor of the first stereo speaker that incorporated surround sound.
Bose’s father, a freedom fighter, had fled to the USA in the 1920s fearing persecution by the British authorities.
Dr Amar Bose studied in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and joined the faculty in 1956 . He taught for 45 years in his alma mater. In 2009 , he donated most of the shares of his $1.5 billion BOSE Corporation to the MIT.
Bose was named the Inventor of the Year in 1987. In 2008 , he was inducted to the National Invention Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of great men like Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Alva Edison.

An interesting anecdote revealed in the biography of Ratan Tata is that Bose who was a friend during Tata’s days in the USA had requested Tata to join him.
