Edward Said
1 November is the birth anniversary of Prof. Edward Said ( 1935-2003).
Said, born in Jerusalem was a renowned intellectual, academic, literary critic and public activist. He was a US citizen since his father had served in the US Army during WW I.
Said relocated to the USA in 1948 and took a PhD in English literature from Harvard University. He was a Professor of Literature in Columbia University.
Said is best known for his seminal work Orientalism, published in 1978.
