Daulatabad Fort near Aurugabad has a thousand years history and has seen the rise of many dynasties – the Yadavas, Khilijis, Tughlaks, the Bahamanis and the mighty Mughals.
The place was called Deogiri but Muhammad Bin Tughlak shifted his capital from Delhi in 1327 and renamed it Daulatabad ( the city of fortune).
The fort was so well fortified that no enemy has ever been able to capture it. Canons are placed at all strategic points and the only way to the top is through a dark passage cut through the rock.
The fort has a small museum attached to it. The archeological survey has maintained the pathways well and me and Sasi were able to make the steep climb up to the top.
