D H Lawrence.
11 September is the birth anniversary of the writer D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930).
Author of novels, short stories, poems, plays, essays, and letters, his novels – Lady Chattely’s Lover (1928), Sons and Lovers (1913), The Rainbow (1915), and Women in Love (1920), made D H Lawrence one of the most influential English writers of the 20th century.
Four of the famous novels of the English writer were subjected to censorship trials for their vivid portrayal of sexuality and the use of explicit language.
Apart from the troubles regarding censorship he was subjected to harassment during the World War I due to the alleged sympathy of his wife for Germany , forcing him to leave England. Lawrence died in France at the young age of 45.
