Ghost of Strikes

The Ghost of Strikes.

Kerala has been the worst sufferer in terms of investment due to the persistent phobia of the Indian entrepreneurs and corporate houses regarding strikes and trade unions.
Dipankar Gupta has written a perceptive article in the Times of India exposing the irrational fear.
He reveals that Strikes in India have dropped 89.3% to 34 in 2022 , compared to 318 a decade ago. Germany and UK had 1532 and 749 strikes in the same period.
He says it’s a mindset issue and just like the belief in ghosts.
He cites the successful model implemented by France after World War II, where committed civil servants run corporate entities. Instead of duplicating the Keynesianism, the Ecole educated government employees created jobs and invested in the production of quality goods for a quality sensitive market. The world famous Renault automobile company is French government controlled.
I can cite the example of beurocrat V Krishnamoorthy who converted Steel Authority of India into an envied Navaratna.
The Cochin International Airport is an example from Kerala.
India can do it, probably better, with the benefit of hindsight, concludes Prof Dipankar Gupta.
