26 July is the birth anniversary of Bernard Shaw(1856-1950).

Shaw is considered the greatest playright in the history of the English language, since Shakespeare.
Playright, critic, polemicist and political activist, George Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin, Ireland.
He has written more than 60 plays. Some of the most famous are, Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923).

Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1925.
Pygmalion was later adapted as a hit musical. The movie classic, My Fair Lady based on the play won 8 Oscar awards.

His statements were often critical and controversial. Shaw has been described as ” a pole of negative electricity set in a people of positive electricity”.
Shaw perceptively wrote in 1932:
“In every country you can find rabid people who have a phobia against Jews, Jesuits, Armenians, Freemasons, Irishmen, or simply foreigners as such. Political parties are not above exploiting these fears and jealousies”.

Some of the quotable quotes of Shaw:
“When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares it is his duty”.
“I am a millionaire, that is my religion”.
“It is dangerous to be sincere unless you are stupid”.
“All great truths begin as blasphemies”.
“He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches”.
“A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul”.
