▪ When he was on the field, he communicated in 4 languages: French, Spanish, Italian, and English.
▪ Before each match he studied the players of the teams he was going to manage and learned the first names of all the players.
▪ In the Korea -Japan 2002 final, Ronaldo gave him his jersey and took the match ball. Both Brazil and Germany players congratulated him for his performance.
▪ He was the only referee who managed to be the cover of a football video game (PES 3).
▪ He was named the best referee in history, according to France Football.
▪ He was voted 7 times as referee of the year in Serie A.
▪ He refereed in the Champions League, Europa League, Olympic Games, and World Cup finals .
