An Ancient Seal.
An ancient baked clay seal from Nalanda, depicting Mahamaya , the mother of Budha, and inscribed in Pala characters is a priced possession of the National Museum, New Delhi.
It dates back to the 8th century CE and contains the inscription: “Nagara bhuklan kumara-malyadhi karnasya.”
Mahamaya is flanked by elephants, symbolizing prosperity, good fortune, and wealth.
The Pala script used in the inscription belongs to the Pala Empire, known for its contributions to art, education, and Buddhism in ancient India.
