Coronation Chair of England.
The ornate chair in the picture has a unique place in the history of England.
The chair originally belonged to the King of Scotland.
Stone of Destiny, also known as Stone of Scone, was the ancient symbol of Scotland’s monarchy.
It was captured by King Edward I of England in 1296, and has been part of coronation ceremonies in England and later Great Britain ever since.
Since the coronation of King Edward II in 1308, 26 monarchs have been crowned in this chair. His father, King Edward I, originally had used the chair as a ‘relic case’ in the palace.
