The Carmelite Congregation of Malabar.

The Carmelite s of Mary Immaculate ( CMI) is the first indigenous religious congregation of the Catholic community in India.
It was originally called the TOCD ( Third Order of the Carmelite Decalides) and part of the worldwide Carmelite Congregation.
After the formation of the Syro Malabar Hierarchy it was renamed CMI.
The centenary souvenir of 1931 is a valuable historical document which describes the story of the beginnings of the religious order.
The photos provide a peep into the influential personalities of the times.
Pius XI was the Pope, George V, the King of Britain and India, Lord Willington, the Viceroy of India, Sree Chithira Tirunal Balaramavarma, the young King of Travancore and Sree Ramavarma , the King of Cochin.
The Bishops of the Syro Malabar Church were, Augustine Kandathil – Ernakulam, James Kalassery – Changanachery, Francis Vazhapally- Thrissur and Augustine Choolaparambil – Kottayam.
