Pushing the Boundaries of Knowledge.
There are three types of geniuses pushing the boundaries of knowledge, according to Sylvian Cappel.
One is the scientist, mining the edges, finding nuggets, polishing them into proofs with little concern for their application.
They toss them over their shoulders to the next group of innovators, who take the breakthroughs and find ways to use them.
John Nash (1928-2015), the renowned American Mathematician and winner of the Nobel and Abel Prizes belonged to a third group : paratroopers dropped behind the lines into the darkness, with orders to fight their way back into the light.
The life of Nash has been immortalised through the Oscar Award winning film, ” A Beautiful Mind”.
Russel Crowe portrayed the genius in a performance of a lifetime in the film.
