World Schizophrenia Day.

May 24 is World Schizophrenia Day.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that messes up the way a person expresses their feelings. It basically affects the thoughts, actions and perceptions of a person.

“Schizophrenia often affects young people. Hence early diagnosis is very important.
Persons with illness can have positive symptoms like delusions and hallucinations or negative symptoms like Anhedonia (inability to enjoy), Avolition (poor motivation), Apathy or Alogia.
The illness may be acute or chronic.
With medication and psychosocial treatments, most people improve very well!
The family members need our support.
Collaborative work by all those interested in mental health is very important!”

– Prof.Dr Roy Abraham Kallivayalil , former Secretary General,
World Psychiatric Association.
