Mario Miranda.
2 May is the birth anniversary of the legendary cartoonist, painter and illustrator, Mario Miranda (1926-2011).
Mario Joao Carlos do Rosario de British Miranda was born a Portuguese citizen in Portuguese India and lived in Mumbai, England and Goa.
He became famous through his cartoons in the now defunct “The Illustrated Weekly of India”. What made him unique was his distnct and original style of drawing. His character Miss Rajani Nimbupani became an icon among the readers.
Mario was the recipient of the Padmasree(1988), Padmabhooshan(2002), and the Padmavibhooshan (2012) awards.
