Happy New Year.
States in India that follow the solar calendar, like Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, Punjab, Himachal, and Mithila region of Bihar celebrate their New Year on April 14. They regard Vaisakha as the first month of the year.
States like Maharashtra, Andhra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur follow the lunar calendar consider Chaitra as the first month of the year and their new year comes somewhere between March and April.
In Gujarat, the new year is celebrated as the day after Diwali. It falls on Shukla Paksha Pratipada in the month of Kartik. In the Kach region, new year is celebrated on the second day of Shukla paksha of Ashada month.
In Ladakh, new year is celebrated as Galdan Namchot to commemorate the birth and the Buddhahood of Je Tsongkhapa (1357–1419 AD), a famous Scholar/Teacher of Tibetan Buddhism whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Sikkim has multiple new years based on the community. The Sherpa people observe Gyalpo Lhosar in February/March. Gurung people observe Tamu Lhosar in December/January and the Tamang and Hyolmo people observe the new year as Sonam Lhosar in January/February.
The Parsis celebrate Paleti on 17-19 Aug (by Sun), Zoroastrians celebrate Nowroz on 21st March each year (by Sun) and the Sindhi people celebrate Cheti Chand which coincides with Chaitra Nav Varsha and is also celebrated as the birth of Lord Jhulelal.
